Star News: MUSICIAN KAREN FOWLIE RELEASES OLYMPIC INSPIRED “FIRE” TO COMMERCIAL RADIO TODAY
Vancouver: February 24, 2010 – Karen Fowlie is set to release her Olympic inspired song “Fire” to commercial radio later today. The song pays homage to the Olympic Athlete and how their achievements inspire people around them. “Fire” features a local children’s choir and an exuberant string arrangement also composed by Karen. She plans to celebrate the song’s release in a showcase with her band later today at the 2010 Olympics Plaza of Nations Stage (750 Pacific Blvd, Vancouver) from 4:00 to 4:30pm. Karen Fowlie is currently available for interviews and public appearances upon request. “Are you drawn to the flame, once you see the spark? Look! I’m on Fire…”

Beverly Hills, CA — Comedic talents Sacha Baron Cohen, Jason Bateman, Steve Carell, Tina Fey and Ben Stiller will help bring laughs to the 82nd Academy Awards®, telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman announced. This will be the debut appearances for Baron Cohen and Bateman. Stiller has appeared on five previous Oscar telecasts, Carell has presented on three and Fey made her debut last year.

Star News: Vs. the Earth Set to Release Debut Album June 1 A record deal with Waveland Music Group will take the rock band global
LOS ANGELES (Feb. 24, 2010) – Vs. the Earth (VTE), a rock act from the mid-Atlantic region, has been signed by Triumphant Entertainment’s record label Waveland Music Group (WMG). The group will release their debut album “The Initiative” nationwide June 1, 2010 via WMG/E1, and the music video for their hit single “Better off Dead” will hit MTV airwaves April 20. The deal was brokered by Paul Walker, and Aris Tongue of New Horizon Entertainment.
“The Initiative,” which will be available in retail stores nationwide, and online through major retailers and iTunes, features original works with a pop-punk sound that combines guitar- and lyric-driven rhythm. Four members make up the high-energy band – Adam Marino, lead vocals and guitar, Ritchey, lead guitar and vocals, Dawg, on bass and vocals, and Elliot Wiley on drums.
The six-year-old group has cultivated a cult following both online and off, playing more than 300 shows per year from coast to coast. The band has played with national acts including The Gin Blossoms, Quiet Riot, Fuel, Eve 6, Everclear, Sister Hazel, Breaking Benjamin, Michelle Branch and Kenney Chesney, among others. VTE’s ever-growing online fan base landed them on the MySpace Top 100 Indie Artists in 2009 in two different genres. Through their social networks – Facebook and Twitter – as well as their Web site VstheEarth.com, the group generates on average more than 65,000 hits per year.
The music video for their new single “Better off Dead,” which recently wrapped production, will feature reality TV show star Mindy Hall from VH1’s “Rock of Love.” Tracks and a preview of the video are available at www.vstheearth.com.

Tell Us Everything, Chef Daniel Boulud
In an era of celebrity chefs and big food personalities with TV shows, magazines and books, blogs and cookware lines, French chef Daniel Boulud is in some ways a throwback. A trained chef with farm roots and a fine-dining pedigree whose built a string of successful restaurants, now being replicated all over the world. Boulud is best known for his eponymous Manhattan restaurant Daniel, which this year earned him three Michelin stars – the Academy Award for Best Picture equivalent for a chef – it’s considered the highest honor a restaurant can earn.

Gordon Ramsay’s Fact-Checking Nightmares
Mojito Restaurant, a Brooklyn Cuban, was the focus of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares last night. And while apparently Gordo's visit has been good for business – after he redid the dining room and revamped the menu, the owners claims its numbers have picked up 30 percent – we have a minor quibble with whomever is producing the show. Not once but twice in the episode Ramsay calls Mojito "the only Cuban restaurant in Brooklyn" (see for yourself at the 3:52 and 35:40 marks). Now we understand that hyperbole is fun and all, but c'mon! There are at least two other Zagat-Rated Cuban restaurants in Mojito's general area alone (that'd be Habana Outpost and Cubana Café). Let's try and do better next time guys, ok?

In “Oscars Designer Challenge 2010,” nine up-and-coming fashion designers are vying to have their original evening gown worn by one of the Awards escorts during the 82nd Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7. Members of the fashion and entertainment press were introduced today (2/23) to the nine designers and their creations at a runway fashion show at the Academy’s Beverly Hills headquarters.
